Information: While you might be inclined to believe that Passion Fruit (Latin: Passiflora edulis) gets its name from its passion inducing flavor, you would be very wrong. Rather than being named by an amorous botanist, the fruit was given its name by Jesuit priests in Brazil sometime in the 1700’s. The Jesuits who found the fruit growing in abundance there felt that the crown shaped flowers of the fruit, reminded them of the crown of thorns worn by Jesus before he was crucified, an event known as the Passion of Christ. During colonial times, as Jesuits traveled throughout South and North America, they brought the fruit with them and planted the seeds in the gardens of their missions. In fact, the Jesuits were probably the first people to cultivate them in California where Passion Fruits are now widely grown commercially. The flavor of Passion Fruit is unique. It has a musky guava-like character with a slightly acidic profile ranging from sweet to tart depending on the time picked. This profile makes it a perfect match with the astringency of our Ceylon tea. Fantastic hot or cold, this is one tea you’ll want to savor again and again.

I like Passion Fruit based teas, but only ones with a black tea base and this fits the bill perfectly.

Smooth, great flavor of this Passion Fruit Black tea. Delicious and refreshing iced as well. With an orange slice and a teaspoon of sugar, this is my favorite tea right now.

This Passion Fruit Black tea is just great. The flavor is very mild but very aromatic at the same time. I don’t think it tastes artificial in anyway.

I used to drink Passion Fruit Black Tea with my mom every day. So I bought this tea. It is delicious! I like that.

Yummy tea. Actually tastes like Passion fruit tea instead of black tea with barely a hint of fruit flavor.

  8. Rated 5 out of 5

This is quality tea. The passion fruit is complementary to the black tea and does not overwhelm it at all. A very good blend. This tea has become a daily habit, replacing all the other black teas.

I think this Passion Fruit Black Tea has a great tropical flavor that doesn’t taste artificial. I sweeten my tea, so I’m not sure if that brings out the flavor more… This is my new “day” tea!

Great tea. Passion fruit smell is very vague and almost non-existen. Good tea nonetheless.

Excellent flavor combination of this Passion Fruit Black Tea, excellent quality and strength. 3 minutes of steeping is really all it takes. 5 to 6 minutes make quite a strong cup. I use the same leaves 2 to 3 times depending on my steep time per batch and get a good batch every time. Oh yeah, the price is awesome too!

I really wasnt sure what to expect from this tea, since passion fruit flavored things are generally hit or miss for me. But I was pleasantly surprised, I loved the flavor! I will most likely be ordering more of this in the very near future.

This tea smells heavenly. I have no idea what a passion fruit tastes like, but I hope it tastes like this tea smells. This tea smells deliciously tropical and fruity and it makes my stomach growl. This is the type of tea that you just want to eat the dry leaves!

I love this tea. Since its fruit flavored, it tends to be a bit light on flavor. My solution…let it brew a little longer. Then its very good!

Took me about half a cup for this tea to grow on me. It smelled almost like peaches in the bag, and theres a tiny bit of peach taste in the brewing, but not overwhelmingly so. Theres more of a fullbodied fruity taste Ive never had passion fruit so not sure if thats what it tastes like, but Id assume so that rounds it out, almost like a light perfume.

The Passion Fruit Tea is not like most fruit teas. It is zingy and refreshing. Although it is a bit sour at times. I like to steep this linger than recommended to concentrate the flavor.

This tea definitely lives up to its name. Another new favorite, I am a fruit fiend, so I thoroughly enjoy this clean and fruity tea.

Just when I thought no tea could be more delicious and satisfying than the peach apricot black tea from CuppaTea, I lingered over a big cup of their passion fruit black tea this morning. Amazing. Wish I could have stayed in that mode all day.

The tea smells just as good once steeped and tastes delightful too! I am usually not a fan of fruit flavored teas because I find them sour but this one is not in the least bit sour. It is sweet and refreshing but not overpower! It also has a nice black tea base that shines through beautifully.

This is excellent for people who love fruit flavors. Its my favorite of the fruit tea selections, and it still has enough caffeine to power you through the day.

We tried this tea for our collegeage child because the passion fruit was recommended as calming anxiety as well as medication. After a box of pyramid bags, she agrees it works for this purpose.

I am pretty new to drinking loose leaf teas, and this was the first tea that I looked for specifically when I found Cuppa Tea. I was not disappointed! I love Passion Fruit Tea, and this is the best one I have found by far!

We used this for iced tea, and although it was good, I dont get much of a passion fruit flavor. I was hoping it would be similar to the passion fruit or tropical iced teas that are in some restaurants. But this is still a good tea.

  30. Rated 5 out of 5

    Bethel Ramsour (verified owner)

The flavor was really strong and bitter, more along the lines of the kind of kick some over steeped black teas can give you. My boyfriend said he really enjoyed it and enjoyed the flavor.

This is my new favorite tea! I was looking for Passion fruit tea as I had read that it helped with sleep. I obviously wasnt paying attention when I ordered this, since its a black tea. Never have a made such a fortuitous mistake! When I first opened the package the sweet fruitiness of the tea hit me, and the fruit carries on to the flavor. Its delicious and I highly recommend it.

This is a wonderful summer flavor for iced tea. The fruit is natural and balanced perfectly with the black notes of the tea. I brew it in the sun and drink it liberally in warm weather.

Nice fruity flavor. Not too strong. Only had to add 2 equal to sweeten one quart. Pitcher that comes with starter set makes one quart of tea. I add hot tap water, two equal then stick it in frig.

Delicious, sweet tasting tea. I love passion fruit but to me, it just tastes like a fruity, sweet tea. Still a good tea when Im in the mood for an exotic fruity one. Good hot but great iced!

  40. Rated 4 out of 5

The dried tea is fragrant, oh man, is it fragrant, it smells very strongly of passion fruit a sweet, almost sickening, slightly floral, very fruity and intensely tropical with a very natural honey/nectar smell. I do not think I have ever smelled a passion fruit that smells this fragrant, but it is not overpowering, it smells delicious.

This is weird to say about tea, but for me it tasted like sweet pipe tobacco and fruit. Sort of a dry finish and in the bag, it smells like wine. I liked it though.

I like to mix the passion fruit with my Irish breakfast to when I want a little bit of a different flavor. As a whole, I really dont like the blends, but putting a bit of flavor in every once and in a while is nice and this is a good flavor to do that with.

  44. Rated 5 out of 5

    Aurora Anzideo (verified owner)

This tea smells fruity, and at first taste it is but its also got a very floral sort of taste. Its good with honey, which kind of rounds out the flavors a bit. I enjoyed it, but its very likely Ill use it in blends more than I will drink it solo.

  45. Rated 4 out of 5

    Almeda Murrell (verified owner)

This blend is unique and interesting. I oversteeped it my first time trying it and its probably not something Id drink by itself, but it would probably go well in a fruity blend, adding some zest. I like it, even if its not a new favorite.

  46. Rated 5 out of 5

    Herma Stablein (verified owner)

I found the smell of the leaves strong but very pleasant. Brewed hot I thought it was actually very sweet without sweetener for a black tea and I quite enjoyed it, although I cant say that the passion fruit aspect of it stands out at all. It does have a very fruity flavor to it though. All in all, it was good, and Id buy it again.

Really delicious and makes a wonderful iced tea as well! However, some of these fruity flavor teas taste very similar this one included.

  48. Rated 5 out of 5

    Eun Guay (verified owner)

I had it iced. Found some variability from cup to cup. At its best, it has a mellow fruitiness that balances nicely with the strong flavor of black tea. Other times the fruitiness was overpowered. Overall, its one of the better black teas Ive tried. Be careful not to over brew.

Its a very lovely fruity tea. I had brewed a new cup. I accidentally over seeped it the first time. Its not so good over seeped.

The flavor is rich but doesnt feel overwhelming. I really like the smell, which has this calm effect on me. The passion fruit is a good choice for the winter when you are craving something summery!

If you like black tea and fruity flavors, this is sure one to try. It had the perfect sweetness from the passion fruit. I was hesitant to purchase this flavor, having tried passion fruit in the past and not enjoying it. But after trying to make myself a pot of tea, I have to say its one of my favorites.

This tea was pretty good it just kind of seemed like the passion fruit flavor was more of an afterthought. It was definitely there but more present as an aftertaste than anything else.

  53. Rated 5 out of 5

    Ling Huizenga (verified owner)

A very good tea, definitely worth trying. Dont steep this tea too long, black teas are strong, but this passion fruit make up for the strong taste. Perfect for an afternoon pick me upper.

  54. Rated 5 out of 5

    Adeline Breed (verified owner)

This is a strong fruity tea with an exotic flair. It brews strong and even cold retains all of its different flavors underlying the passion fruit. Its naturally quite sweet and makes a good afternoon or dessert tea. Chilled it performs well but doesnt make a great iced tea like some other blends Ive tried.

I must preface this with a confession: Im not exactly sure what passion fruit is supposed to taste like. I imagine its something tropical and fruity, perhaps flowery, and sweet. With that in mind, opening the bag of tea gave a fruity scent, tropical with a hint of apple. After brewing, the tropical fruit flavors were subdued quite a bit, and I ended up having to add more sugar. Not unpleasant at all, but probably not one of my goto teas. However, I can see this blending well when a subtle tropical flavor is desired.

Mmm, I can tell this will likely be something I have to keep around. It’s a great blend of the passion fruit and black tea flavors. Sweet and fruity, but with a lovely depth to it. A little malty, a little honeyed, this is a lovely smooth, rich black tea that doesn’t hide behind the passion fruit flavor nor steamroll over it but works wonderfully with it. A fantastic passion fruit tea.
